Baptisms, Wedding & Funerals
Baptism (all ages) & dedication (children)
At Genesis, we celebrate two sacraments: baptism and the Eucharist. A sacrament is a visible sign of an inward grace. Sacraments are physical elements that convey a spiritual reality; they represent the present action of God, versus memorial of what God has done. We don't believe baptism confers salvation upon an individual, but on the other hand, we don't believe baptism is simply a reminder of a spiritual reality or the just a symbol of a decision that someone has made to follow Christ. In some mysterious way, the power and presence of God is active in the sacrament of baptism.
We also celebrate child dedication at Genesis. It is a sacred rite for parents who want the blessing of God on their child, but believe that baptism is to be reserved for those who have made a conscious decision representing faith in Jesus. In dedicating an infant, parents are accepting their responsibility of nurturing the child in the love and grace of God. The emphasis in infant dedication is on the personal pledge of parents to raise and nurture their child in the ways of Jesus. Email Pastor Kara to discuss baptism or dedication.
