What to Expect in Worship at Genesis
SUNDAY MORNINGS
The people of Genesis gather together on Sundays to worship God, to remember the story of God, and to find our place within in it again (because we forget it so often). We gather to join God’s work of cultivating new beginnings in all of us, everywhere.
It's kind of awkward to talk about ourselves and how we are together as a community, so the best way to find out about us is to just come and see. Our gatherings are simple; we like to call ourselves "warmly liturgical." We sing, pray, preach, and celebrate the Eucharist (communion) together every week. Our worship gatherings last about an hour. We provide worship aids such as fidgets and coloring pages for all ages, wiggle bags for kids and a crawling mat & toys for our littlest friends who might not want to go to Genesis Littles.
The atmosphere at Genesis is interactive and intimate. The music is understated and beautiful. The prayers of the people offer space to share joys and concerns with the wider community. We move forward out of our seats to take communion. The sermon is conversational and thoughtful. People dress casually. Parking is easy and convenient. We gather after worship for coffee, treats, and conversation.
5th Sundays and Story sundays
We practice a rhythm of worship where we integrate additional formation practices. On months with a fifth Sunday, we either forgo regular a regular worship gathering and instead observe a Sabbath Sunday in our own homes/outdoors or a Serve Sunday where we engage in a service project together/in our own communities. Additionally, once a quarter we have Story Sunday, where we hear one another’s stories - even when our stories feel messy and incomplete, we believe it all belongs in the community of faith.
Special services
We gather for special worship services outside of Sunday mornings for Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and Christmas Eve. In addition to our liturgical calendar, we also celebrate a Pride month worship gathering, an outdoor worship gathering for Creation Tide at a local Nature Center and hold a blessing of the Pets in October.
